Taking the Boredom Out of Driving School

If you have ever had the misfortune of having to attend a standard defensive driving course, you know just how incredibly boring it can be. The typical instructor could easily put Ben Stein to sleep and the videos they use started life on film reel used to put kids to sleep. This is to the way any sane person could possibly want to spend 6 hours of their lives.

Unfortunately for anyone who has had a run in with Trooper Ticketmaster, there may not be much choice. That is unless you want to give the courts a couple of hundred dollars to cover the speeding ticket he got so much pleasure out of handing over to you after asking for your autograph. While this may not be the only reason to attend a defensive driving school, it is by far the most common.

Any time you get a speeding ticket two things are going to happen that are preordained. First you are going to be assessed a fine, these fines have been going up for years and have reached the realms of the completely ridiculous. Secondly and what can be even more costly is the extreme likelihood that you automobile insurance premiums, which are already too high, are going to go up and stay that way for at least three years.

When you look at the potential costs of getting friendly with the radar gun and Trooper Ticketmaster, you are going to ask yourself two simple questions. First is "What the heck was I thinking doing 90 miles an hour on the freeway?" and secondly "How the heck do I get out of this mess without having to take out a loan I can't afford?"

There is no real answer to the first question unless you were on your way to the hospital to see your first child being born. As for the second question, depending on your past driving record you may be able to get the ticket summarily dismissed along with the accompanying fine, by agreeing to attend a defensive driving school within a specified period of time.

Should you agree to do this the courts will suspend your ticket pending successful completion of the defensive driving class. Once you have supplied proof of completion the ticket and accompanying fine will be dismissed as will any points that would have been applied to your driver's license. Your insurance company will not only leave your premiums at their current rate, but may actually lower them by up to 10% for completing the course.

So back to the part about Ben Stein or at least a clone of him teaching the class, if this sounds like your idea of fun then by all means take the standard defensive driving class and enjoy. For the rest of you who are filled with dread at the mere thought of attending defensive driving school, there is still hope. How would you like to attend a class that is taught by an instructor that more closely resembles Rodney Dangerfield than Mr. Stein?

While there is nothing funny about being a bad driver, there is no reason to have to watch training videos that could put a person drinking Red Bull to sleep. How can anyone expect you to learn anything when all you can concentrate on is trying to keep your eyelids open? In reality there is no possible way you are going to be able to remember anything. If on the other hand the training videos remind you of something you might expect to see on Saturday Night Live or one of the National Lampoon movies , you spend a fair amount of time laughing and chuckling at them, but you are far more likely to remember everything you have seen. You might even find yourself passing some of what you have learned onto others.
